Educational Initiatives

Agunah Prevention

ORA's Agunah Prevention Initiative educates students, community members, and rabbis about the plight of agunot, reframes get-refusal as a form of domestic abuse, and seeks to establish the signing of The Prenup as a community-wide standard.

High Schools

The Agunah Prevention Initiative raises awareness about the plight of agunot and the preventative solution of The Prenup. Geared towards students in yeshiva high schools, this program empowers its participants to protect themselves throughout the marriage process and serve as advocates within their own communities.

The workshop consists of a one-hour, interactive presentation, which incorporates printed sourcebooks and dynamic multimedia tailored to the backgrounds and needs of each audience. The program fosters an engaging discussion about classical Jewish sources, domestic abuse, the experience of the agunah, communal advocacy on behalf of agunot, and the preventative solution of the halachic prenuptial agreement.

Communities

ORA partners with communities throughout North America in addressing the agunah crisis through educational seminars and workshops. Our shul programming engages participants of all skill levels, backgrounds, and ages, empowering communities to take a stance against get-refusal. At the end of many of our programs, married couples are encouraged to sign halachic postnuptial agreements and thereby model to their children the importance of signing The Prenup.

College Campuses

Our workshop on college campuses educates college students about the abusive nature of get-refusal and the preventative solution of The Prenup. Similar to the workshop we run in high schools, the one hour multimedia presentation fosters discussion and empowers college students to take an active role in working to combat the problem of agunot.

Additionally, the ORA Campus Fellowship trains college students to become leaders in their communities, experts on issues of get abuse, and certified as notaries public so they can independently facilitate the signing of halachic prenups!

“This program was very informative. I did not know this was a big problem before today”

- student of Hebrew Academy of Montreal

“I am now aware of the prenuptial agreement, which I had no idea existed before

-student of Hebrew Academy of Nassau County

"Thank you so much for your informative and thoughtful presentations. It is clear that many of the students were highly engaged in learning and exploring the issues. We hope that they internalize the messages and become part of the process of eradicating the scourge of עיגון."

I will definitely now get a prenup when I get married”

- student of Maayanot Yeshiva High School for Girls
